TITLE The Geometrical Design of Saint David's Cathedral Nave Ceiling, a Geometer's Perspective
FORMAT A4 297 x 210 mm / 36 pages / Full colour
CONTENT The nave ceiling at Saint David's Cathedral is a carpenter's masterpiece, a level plane with two parallel rows of huge pendants suspended along the length of the nave, half pendants along the north and south arcades and quarter pendants in the ceiling's four corners. The pendants are linked back to the ceiling plane by arch braces and the whole ceiling is embellished by elaborately detailed carving. From visual observation, photographic recording and computer analysis it is possible to reconstruct the geometrical design that underlies the scintillating carpentry of this extraordinary roof.
